Access to Work will need to contact your employer to finalise your grant. The timing of this contact depends on your specific support needs, but it is really important to involve your employer as early as possible.
Your employer will have certain responsibilities as a result of your ATW grant. For example, they may need to pay for approved support items or services initially and then claim the money back from ATW. Because of this, it is essential that your employer fully understands what will happen, what they need to do, and what deadlines are in place. Unfortunately, most employers are woefully underprepared for their ATW-related responsibilities, and it’s you who’ll suffer the consequences.
Discussing disability or health conditions with your employer can be sensitive and challenging. That’s why I am here to help facilitate these conversations. I can explain how the ATW grant benefits both you and your employer, what the process involves, and what actions your employer will need to take as your case progresses and your grant is finalised. They will be leaving with a comprehensive write-up outlining their responsibilities, complete with clear timelines and specific to-dos for each stage of the process.
By supporting your employer’s understanding and involvement, we can make sure the process runs smoothly and that the support you need is in place without unnecessary setbacks.
